MARRIAGE STORY, ICON ONE : ENGAGEMENT RING, I chose an engagement ring as…
-
-
I chose an engagement ring as my first and most important icon, as the film I chose is centred around marriage.
I decided to use slightly more muted colours in my ring icon to match the films' grungier colour palette. as opposed to using a vibrant colour for the jewel like green or blue, I decided to use a less saturated shade of pink.

Henry lying in bed with both parents, Nicole and Charlie, for the final time.
Court scene in which both finalise their divorce, viciously.
Nicole, Wife, acting at her husband's theatre company.
The colour palette of the film is very muted, to match the subject matter within it. The film uses primarily pale pinks, browns, greens, and reds.
While I was initially going to make the people within the icon resemble the characters, I thought it'd be difficult to distinguish who is who as Charlie's hair is quite long and Nicoles' is quite short, which could cause confusion.

I chose to create an icon that represents the typical American, "Nuclear" family. Again, I used more muted colours to match the film's colour palette. I chose to create a family for my second icon as family is a core theme within the film;

I chose to create a briefcase as my third and final icon. This was to represent the legal aspect of divorce. Discussing colour choices, I chose brown and gold simply as they are the usual colours of a briefcase. Choosing this as my icon was more thematic than artistic, unlike the other two.
Marriage story is a film that focuses on a messy divorce between two people; Charlie and Nicole, and how it affects their son, Henry.
I chose each one of my icons purposely to show the three core aspects of the film, marriage, family, and law.
