Different types of Vegetables

Activity: Learners must choose between the different vegetables to make soup. each learner will get a paper and pencil to write the vegetables they prefer to make soup with.

Colours and shapes of vegetables

Broccoli is green and is shaped like a tree. Green onions are green and have a long shape. An eggplant is purple its shape is long and thick. potatoes are brown and are shaped like a ball.

Activity: The vegetables will be placed on the theme table. Each learner will get a change to compare the shapes of the different vegetables and will then share with the rest of the learners what they feel, smell and observe.

Activity: We will make use a South Africa map. We will search for these vegetables farms on the map.

What is the role of vegetables in society

Vegetables play an important role in our diet. Vegetables have important nutritional supplements that our body need in order function correctly and to stay healthy.

Activity: Learners must try to eat vegetables everyday. In our morning ring for the week, each learner will get a chance to tell the other learners which vegetables they ate and how it made them feel.

Material to use for a bowl: newspaper, water, dish to soak paper, glue, scissors, a bowl of your choice to mould, plastic wrap, paint, paint brushes, modge podge (upcycle, nd)

Activity: Learners must make a bowl for the vegetables that is on the theme tables. Learners will be provided with different materials to make the bowl.

Vegetable garden labels

Materials for the vegetable garden labels: rocks, paint, paint brushes

Activity: Learners are going to do this activity outside. Learners will take the rocks and paint the picture of the vegetables that is in the school vegetable garden, on the rocks. When learners are done painting the rocks we will go over to the vegetable garden. I will pick out learners that will have to put the rocks by the specific vegetables. For example the rocks that have the potato painted on, will be placed by the potato row in the garden.
