Linear vs. Non-linear language
Linear language
is object-oriented and logical with a beginning and an end
Nonlinear language:
circular, tradition oriented, and subjective.
Intercultural Business Miscommunication:
U.S. manager expects a direct answer ("why" response)
Japanese worker gives detailed, non-linear answer ("what" response)
Miscommunication due to differing expectations in answering "why"
Global number usage
refers to the variations in how numbers, decimal points, and large numbers are written and interpreted in different countries, which can lead to confusion in global communication.
Examples
:
Decimal Points: In the U.S., "34.5" uses a period, while in Europe it's written as "34,5" with a comma.
Large Numbers: A billion in the U.S. has 9 zeros (1,000,000,000), while in many European countries, it has 12 zeros (1,000,000,000,000), which equals a U.S. trillion.

Conversation taboos
: considered inappropriate for conversation with people in certain cultures or groups.
Example
: In the US, small talk about weather, or comments surrounding, they are taught to avoid discussing religion and politics.

Formal vs. Informal language communication
Formal language
is characterized by the use of standard English, more complex sentence structures, infrequent use of personal pronouns, and lack of colloquial or slang terms.
