The narrator goes to a television station watching the clock and watches Calais' satellite broadcast unedited. She calls every government and entrepreneur she can think of, trying to find a pump for them and appealing to radio and television, but to no avail
Looking at the screen, she felt Calais' pain and frustration and cried for the girl. She sees that Calais has reached a kind of fatigue that she has never reached before and has "completely forgotten the camera."
I found the pump and worked out a way to ship it, but on the third night the girl dies.

Rolf had wanted to console her, but it was Azucena who had given him consolation.
Rolf gave up th fight and surrendered to the torture of watching the girl die.
