Dad - Justin
My dad promises to protect me from any possible physical harm or danger in my life. My dad grew up very shameless, carrying himself in a very confident and brazen way. I remember one situation from when I was the age of 9. Mady, my dad, and I all went to Taco Bell late at night. We did not know what we wanted to order, so my dad stopped the car in front of the sign so we may choose what to order. While selecting our preferences, a black car pulls up behind us. Inside, these men are cussing and yelling at our dad to move out of the way. My dad looked at us and instructed we stay in the car. While we were deciding what to order, our dad had intimidated the men so much they left. Without a word of fear in his voice, he arrived back at the car.
Sister - Mady
My sister promises to always be there for me. Mady has literally been with me since day one. She is someone I can always depend on, no matter what. No matter what, when my friends leave for college, when family members pass, my sister will always be there for me. She will continue to live on with me. No matter the cause, big or small, I know I can depend on her in everything. She is my true best friend and comrade. Regardless of times when we have senseless quarrels, I will never doubt our relationship.
Nana - Sheila (Aiko)
My nana promises to always help me foster a relationship with God. She has a very strong relationship with God. She grew up dirt poor and had an abusive mother, life for her was difficult. Throughout her upbringing, God would be there for her. Later, God would give her 3 successful children, 7 intelligent and healthy grandchildren, and a beautiful beach house in Morro Bay, California. While my parents worked hard when I was younger, my nana raised me in a very religious environment. She taught me to emphasize the importance of turning to God at all times, regardless of the situation. I remember when I had come home from school very frustrated and worried. Not doing well in an assignment, I received a poor grade. After her consoling, she reminded me to pray to God. The end result of the situation was comforting, relieving me of anxiety an brightening my day.
Papa - Rolf
My papa promises to always extenuate a serious situation. My papa grew up in Pennsylvania. His parents were both post-war Germans that immigrated to America in hope to start a new life. My papa joined the air force at 21, wanting to make a life for himself. After more than 4 years of service in Vietnam, he had been discharged at age 25. His jokes, smile, and demeanor always brings joy to me during hard times.
Pop - Fred
My pop promises to support me unconditionally. Ever since I was young, my pop would always tell me I could do anything I put my mind to. My pop is a very anti-political person, thinking that politic create a global divide in any situation. However, there was one instance where I had mentioned my interest in political and diplomatic international affair studies. I expected him to be disappointed and talk down the idea. Instead, I was met with a genuine smile, followed by confidence and compersion. He had told me that I could study and participate in any topic I wished to. He emphasized a reassuring tone, assuring I will make the world a better place regardless of my decision.
Lola - Ludy
My Lola promises to fulfill any reasonable wish I have. Not growing up with much under the very dictatorial rule of Ferdinand Emmanuel Edralin Marcos Senior, the 10th President of the Philippines. She did not have that much in the way of freedom, always asking me very materialistic and intimate questions. These questions expose her love language: gift giving. While my family and I were in Paris, she went shopping with me. I told her I would pay for my newly bought clothes, but she did not want me to. No matter what the desire is, from designer apparel, to a home-cooked meal, to just a simple hug or kiss. My Lola will provide when asked. I truly appreciate her love and care for my needs.
Pet - Foxy
My pet, Foxy, an Alaskan Husky, promises to keep me entertained. Despite the obvious language and cultural barrier we both have, she still comforts me in times of unrest. Every single day after school, Foxy will run up to me. She will lick and sniff me, constantly howling our arrival through out the house. Last week, I left for a trip to Sacramento due to a volleyball tournament. It was such a long day, but once I made eye contact with my dog, she gave me joy and appreciation. From her goofy belly rub positions, to her depth perception of a goldfish, she never ceases to entertain me.

Counselor - Mr. Aguilar
Mr. Aguilar promises me that he will aid me in attending university to the best of his ability. I have only known Mr. Aguilar for about a year now and I feel that a bond has grown between us. It is prominent and wishful, promoting collegiate success. Mr. Aguilar consistently checks on me and my mental state before my academic state, demonstrating his genuine understanding and care for me. His efforts regard me not only as a student, but a person as well.
Teachers - Ms. McGowan
Ms. McGowan promises to give mentorship and opportunity on roles of leadership in any organization. She had introduced many leadership events, roles, and insights not only in Student Government, but outside Moreau as well. Just the week before school, I had went on a retreat to UCSC for Student Government. There, Ms. McGowan invited me to be one of the select few of Moreau Leaders to attend the State Conference with her in Santa Clara this year. She also provided possible Leadership roles outside of Student Government at Moreau Catholic. Our newly budded, yet mutual feeling of appreciation for each other has spread greatly between us. Ms. McGowan, will forever be a person I can rely on to recommend me to any Leadership related position in the future inside and outside of school.
Coaches - Stephanie
My Coach, Steph, promises to be there for me mentally and athletically. She has seen me grow up from when I was on MVVC (my volleyball club) since 2020. Regardless of my mental and physical state, she pushed me. She pushed me to become that better version of myself she sees in me every year. Ever since I was young, I was anxious about everything. I remember I got injured last season. I was so frustrated with my performance, I aimed for perfection, regardless of my physical and mental state. After practice she talked with me, she had a concerned tone that brought me to tears. I was able to experience a sense of vulnerability with Steph. Steph recognized my mental issues and she worked with me, focusing on adjusting my mindset towards perfection and acceptance. Whether something happens to me on or off the volleyball court, I can acknowledge it and move on.
