- high protein
- neutrophilic leukocytosis
Tx
- ceftriaxone + vanco
- dexamethasne (neurologic complications of s. pneumoniae)
- suspect Listeria: ampicillin

Meningismus
headache, fever, nuchal rigidity, altered mental status
-
most common: strep, follwed by neisseria meningitidis
Seizure
3-6 months in viral illness
indicates LP if accompanied by meningeal signs, lacking immunization against H. flu, strep pneumoniae, antecedent abx use

deadlier than strep -> petechiae (DIC, thrombocytopenia) -> shock -> death

Tx: amoxicillin, ceftriaxone
