6. Ensure Compliance: Make sure you comply with all local regulations regarding public film screenings, including any necessary permits or licenses.
You need a ‘non-theatrical’ film licence to show films and TV programmes in public (but not in a cinema), for example:
at one-off events ; at film clubs - whether or not you sell tickets; in common areas for guests, residents and passengers; in retail and entertainment venues
You need authorisation from the distributor to show a movie in a cinema i.e., a theatrical film licence else you may be sued under Copyright law
1. Obtain Screening Rights: You’ll need to secure the rights to screen the films. E.g., Shaw Brothers movies are often distributed by Celestial Pictures, so you should contact them to inquire about licensing fees and terms.
2. Choose the Films: Which films would you like to screen? Build a database. E.g., Decide which Shaw Brothers movies you want to screen. Some popular titles include The 36th Chamber of Shaolin, Five Deadly Venoms, and Come Drink with Me...
C. Decide on genres What genres would you like to show? Kung Fu, Horror, Action, Sci-Fi etc.?
