New African States
OYO EMPIRE
The Oyo Empire was mainly known for their slave trade and their victory over Dahomey. The Oyo sold over 121,000 slaves. The Oyo was defeated by their neighbors Nupe. They lasted from 1500-1837.
Asante Kingdom
The Asante kingdom took over the slave trade left by the Oyo kingdom. They reigned for over 200 years from 1670 to 1901. By the late 1800s early 1900s the Asante Kingdom was losing its power. They were defeated by the British in the war of 1900.
Osei Tutu
The Asante Kingdom was founded by Osei Tutu. He led a alliance of Asante states to fight the Denkyira, a rival. After the war he made the states into a kingdom.
Affonso I
Affonso was a Christian King of Kongo. He made Kongo Christian and made it a Portugal vassal. He tried to convince the Portuguese to end the slave trade but they never did.

Cape Town
Cape town was colonised in 1652 by the Dutch. The British also wanted the town and kept fighting the Dutch over it. After a few wars over the town the British were finally given Cape town.
