What it is

Example

Right now the worlds population is about 8 billion and is predicted to reach 9.6 billion by 2050.

Growth rate is a number that shows an increase or a decrease in population over time.

How can the economy effect the world

Examples

When women stay in school and are empowered to get awesome jobs they get married at an older age and have less children.

When women live in poor farming communities they often have more children to support the work on the farm.

The Economic conditions of a country can influence population growth because if you have 5 kids in Canada you would be spending a lot more money than 2 kids. On the contrary, if you you have 5 kids that are all above 15 they can work and contribute more than 2 kids would be able to. Overall in Canada's economy people prefer to give birth to less children.

Why women get married early

Education in Canada

When women do not have good access to education they tend to get married very young in order to achieve financial stability. When women get married younger it tends to result in higher fertility rates.(Mali)

The education that people receive here in Canada have a large impact on the population, especially for females.

Example

For example if someone is doing their PHD they would spend a long time in university. This results in people having less kids because the are older.

What it is

How it effects population growth

Social Attitudes refer to the expectations that a society has for the number of children a woman should have (fertility rate). For example, China once had a 2 child policy. This meant that the women in the country can only give birth to 2 children.

Some countries like Kenya consider large families to be culturally normal, between 5 and 9 children per family. Other parts of the world consider 1 or 2 children normal, like Canada. This is the reason why Kenya's population will increase drastically.

Why healthcare effects global population growth rate

Agricultural and Industrial Revolution

In poverty-stricken countries like Mali, women do not have access to birth control and as a result tend to have more children, (higher fertility).

Mexico

Japan

If a country has a large percentage of the population in the 15-40 age groups they will have a faster growth rate because those people are usually starting families.

If a country has a large percentage of their population in older age groups, 50+ they will have a slow growth rate.

Due to the Agricultural and Industrial revolutions, life expectancy and the global population increased dramatically. More babies also began to live past the age of 1(IMR) which also caused the global population to increase dramatically. Life expectancy played a tremendous part in the growth of the population as well because as people grew older, their children had children causing three generations to be alive and well at the same time. Before the revolution people lived to the age of 40. This caused only two generations to be alive at once.

Because fewer people needed to be farmers, people began to move into cities for jobs in factories run by steam power created by burning coal. People in the city created many new technologies such as a steam engine, medicine, and vaccines. Better nutrition helps healthier people live longer, life expectancy increased and the global population went up to 1 billion people.
