Industrial Revolution
Because fewer people needed to be farmers people began to move into cities for jobs in factories by steam power created by burning coal. People in the city invented many new technologies like steam engine, medicine, vaccines, and better nutrition so people lived longer. Life expectancy increased and the global population raised to 1 billion people.

Agricultural Revolution
Approximately 350 years ago, humans applied technology to farming so farmers could grow more food per area of land. Better nutrition means people live longer (increased life expectancy) so the global population increased.
-
Infant Mortality Rate
When there wasn't any medications or technologies to help babies survive when they are young, more babies died early. Because of this, families decided to have more babies so they have a better chance of having more babies to live. When medicine and machines were invented to help babies survive, more babies didn't die so the Infant Mortality Rate went down.

Age of the Population
If a country has a large percentage of population in the 15-40 age groups they will have a faster growth rate because those people are usually starting families. (think Mexico) If a country has a large percentage of their population in older age groups 50+ (think Japan) they will have a slow growth rate.

Studies have shown that the more education that people get, particularly for women, they happen to get married later. When women do not have good access to education, they tend to get married very young in order to achieve financial stability. When women get married younger, it tends to result in higher fertility rates.
