Tastes and textures of different vegetables
Class Activity
I will bring a basket of 5 different vegetables for the learners to taste.
Include: mielies / tomatoes / cucumber / broccoli / carrots
What do different vegetables taste and feel like? Discuss that tomatoes are smooth while broccoli have little bulbs and mielies have a smooth but rugged texture. Give the learners the opportunity to feel the vegetables I brought with for them to taste.

How and where vegetables grow: Some grow below ground like potatoes and onions, others grow above ground on plants like mielies and tomatoes.

I will set up a theme table with flashcards of vegetables and then the learners can place the vegetables in the correct baskets that are labeled according to where they grow.
Classify vegetables according to where they grow:
Above ground or below ground. Mielies grow on plants above ground, carrots grow underground and mushrooms grow in wet/warm and dark places.

We will discuss the different vegetables and the parts we eat like spinach we eat the leaves, celery we eat the leaves and stem, carrots we eat the roots and tomatoes we eat the 'fruit'

Where do vegetables grow and what do they need to grow and become vegetables that we can eat?
Class Activity
Make a vegetable garden at school. Use plant boxes and give the learners the opportunity to plant and care for the plants till they yield vegetables.

Class Activity
We will create a poster with different vegetables and we will sort the different colour together.
The learners will use pictures from magazines to add to the poster.
