Surgery
Paediatric: used as primary tx. in combo with chemo/ radio
Adults: mainstay of tx. hope to cure solid tumours
Surgical Procedures
Relieve obstructions- ileus/ typhlitis
Resection/ excision tumours
VP Shunt/ external drains
Limb sparing/ prosthesis
Drainage: abscess, sinus, fissures
Dental: extractions/ fillings
Drains: chest, ascites
Pre RT- move vital organs out of RT field
Hickman insertion
Bone marrow harvest
Biopsy: diagnosis
Radiotherapy
Radioactive isotopes: deliver radiation directly into the cancer cells, given IV/PO cancer cells absorb radioactive substance more than normal cells, receive higher dose of radiation
Proton therapy: protons go to the targeted place in the body and deposit the specific radiation dose into the tumour.
Brachytherapy: radiation delivered close to the tumour in the form of a sealed source
Total Body Irradiation TBI: whole body radiation pre transplant
External beam: produced from a distance by a linear accelerator. Most common
