OCCLUSION

Ideal & Normal Occlusion
Ideal and normal are different, occlusion is not only the dental teeth but involves the skeletal jaws.
Ideal Occlusion
Has a coincindence midline,
overjet 2-3mm
, flat to slightly curved of spee, the harmonic interactions of maxilla and mandible, no crowding, teeth are properly aligned in the arch creating a perfect u shape. aesthetically and functionally stable so that it wont disturb the TMJ and minimize the pressure on the jaw muscles for a good mastication.
Normal Occlusion
Tooth Contact Relationship
1st molar
: The mesiobuccal cusp of the 1st upper molar should occlude with the buccal groove of the lowwer 1st molar.
Canine
: the mesial incline of upper canine occludes/touches the distal incline of the lower canine. Upper canine positioned in between the lower canine and 1st premolar.
Teeth are well aligned and in proper positioned to meet the function. teeth in proper position, occlusal surface of posterior teeth runs align with the incisal edges of anterior teeth making a perfect curved line in the arch
Some deviations
from ideal occlusion but still
aesthetically acceptable
and
functionaly stable
Class 3 Maloclussion
Mandibular prognathism or underbite
Mandibularrognathism or underbite
, occurs when the lower jaw protrudes forward, causing the lower jaw and teeth to overlap with the upper jaw and teeth.
Facial Appearance:
Concave profile
, lead to a more
pronounced chin
and a
less prominent upper jaw
, affecting facial symmetry and aesthetics.
Tooth Contact Relations
1 st molar
: upper 1st molar rely on the space between the lower 1st and 2nd molar
Reverse overjet <0 mm, anterior crossbite
Class 2 Maloclussion
Retrognathism/Overbite & Postnormal/Distoclussion
Convex profile, prominence upper jaw, upper jaw and teeth significantly overlap with the lower jaw and teeth
Tooth Contact Relations
1st molar:
mesiobuccal cusp nempel diantara gap premolar 2 dan molar 1
Canine:
automatis maju
Incissor
: 90% proclined incissors
Can caused by an
overly prominent upper jaw
or an underdeveloped lower jaw.
Divisions
Class 2 Division I :
incissors are proclined
Class 2 Division II :
upper incissor are retroclined
Stogmatognathic System
Involves the TMJ, bones supporting developmental of jaw, soft tissues (gingiva, mucosa, tounge, lips, cheeks and glands) and muscles that are crucial for mastication, swallowing and teeth itself.
Deciduous teeth
Primary teeth creates natural pathway for permanent teeth to grow
Deciduous teeth promote growth and developmental of the stogmatognathic system.
Primary teeth supports and influence jaw growth and development determining the patients profile facial appearance.
Difference of space maintainer in pediatric and orthodontics
PEDIATRICS
maintain space between loss deciduous teeth so that it wont disrupt the growth of permanent teeth later on that would case miss alignment and crowding, guiding non erupted tooth
ORTHODONTICS
Class I Maloclussion
Straight profile
70% of people
has slight misalignment of teeth
