Chronic Myeloid Leukemia - Coggle Diagram
Chronic Myeloid Leukemia
Definition
type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow. It is characterized by the overproduction of myeloid cells, a type of white blood cell, due to a genetic mutation involving the BCR-ABL fusion gene, which arises from a translocation between chromosomes 9 and 22 (the Philadelphia chromosome).
-
Pathophysiology
A translocation between chromosomes 9 and 22, specifically t(9;22)(q34;q11), results in the Philadelphia chromosome.
BCR-ABL fusion gene -> tyrosine kinase activity -> unchecked cell proliferation and suppresses apoptosis
