Mouth & Beak:
Initial intake and mechanical breakdown.
Proventriculus:
Secretion of gastric juices.
Crop:
Temporary storage and moistening of food.
Small Intestine:
Digestion and absorption of nutrients.
Gizzard:
Mechanical digestion with help from grit.
Ceca:
Fermentation and absorption of nutrients.
Cloaca:
Final waste storage and expulsion.
Large Intestine:
Water reabsorption.
Cells & Molecules:
Salivary Glands
Secrete amylase for starch digestion.
Microbiota
Assist in fermentation and vitamin synthesis in the ceca.
Intestinal Villi & Microvilli
Increase surface area for nutrient absorption.
Liver
Produces bile for fat emulsification.
Gastric Glands
Produce pepsinogen and hydrochloric acid.
Pancreas
Releases enzymes (amylase, lipase, protease) into the duodenum
