Motor Skills
Milestones
0-3 Months
: Moving legs and arms off of surfaces in excitement
4-6 Months
: Standing with support, reaching for toys while on tummy, playing with feet and transferring toys from one hand to the other
7-9 Months
: Moving from back or tummy into a sitting position, picking up head, pushing up with elbows in a lying position, turning head to visually track objects, picking up small objects, imitating others during playtime
10-12 Months
: Autonomous standing, using furniture to support walking, moving around in various positions to explore the environment and to approach toys, clapping, putting objects into larger containers
Speech Skills
Milestones
0-3 Months
: Crying for needs, cooing
4-6 Months
: Listening+Responding (Babbling), 'making rasperries, simple sounds
7-9 Months
: Recognizing Own Name, Babbling with more sounds and syllables
10-12 Months
: One or two words, 'mama' & 'dada'
12 Months-2 Years
: Expanding vocabulary
2 Years
: Combining words into simple phrases, followed by short sentences
5 Years
: Complete sentences,conversations with peers and adults, comprehensible speech
IMPORTANT: Not always precise (speech patterns can appear sooner or later than the listed timeframe)
General pattern
Focus on immediate needs first (crying if the child is hungry), increasing complexity from there
Very rapid growth of vocabulary
Comperension develops faster than speech production
