Energy Sources
Renewable Energy Sources
Solar
How: The energy of the light that comes from the sun is converted into a form of electricity because of the chemical processes occurring within the Photovoltaic Panels in a Solar Panel that allows this to happen.
-
-
Geothermal
How: Heat from the Mantle of the Earth is used to boil water via a simple flow pipe that returns back to the surface as steam that spins a turbine.
-
Disadvantages
Increases the risk of tectonic activity as most sites are constructed on plate boundaries which have the characteristics of producing earthquakes that can damage infrastructure.
Extremely dangerous to initially construct as digging a hole into the Earth can lead the simplest mistakes to have the worst of consequences.
-
Wind
How: Turbines are spun by the natural flow of wind, this generates kinetic energy that is converted into electricity.
Advantages
-
Very clean, does not produce any sort of emissions.
-
Disadvantages
-
-
Not effective in some places, such as the forests.
Biodiesel
How: It is organic material that is grown in order to be used as fuel to burn to generate electricity.
-
-
Hydroelectric
-
-
Disadvantages
-
-
Incredibly expensive to purchase a site on the river and to construct compared to other sources of energy.
Biomass
Energy is sourced from dead biological matter or other excess organic material and is burned to generate fuel for electricity.
-
Disadvantages
Low-density energy source, meaning there is not that much energy inside.
