Xylem Cell
Function
Transport water upward from the roots to parts of the plants such as stems and leaves, but also transports nutrients.
Adaptation
They lose their end walls so the xylem forms a continuous, hollow tube

Phloem Cell
Function
Transports water and products of photosynthesis from source tissues to the sink regions where they are utilised
Adaptation
Made of living cells (as opposed to xylem vessels, which are made of dead cells) that are supported by companion cells
