Anxiety: Feeling alarmed with fear that may arise in the absence of danger. (Perrotta, G., 2019.)
Trait anxiety
Situations that may feel threatening, using a respond with increased anxiety
Individuals with high trait anxiety will experience different feelings to individuals with low trait anxiety (Knowles., et al., 2020).
feeling an overstimulate of a threat, attention towards a threat , increased perception of the threat and negative feelings
relatively stable as a person (Mahoney.,2021.,)
-
Cognative anxiety
-
-
diverted attention (Mercader-Rubio., 2023)
Arousal
-
-
some individuals can feel low arousal casing their performance to not go so well ( Zaichkowsky, 2004)
three theories around arousal: drive theory, inverted U theory and reversal theory. each play a part in athletes performance ( Zaichkowsky, 2004)
typically refers to physiological response: increasing heart rate ( Zaichkowsky, 2004)
Stress
Persistent , excessive worry that dont go away even with the absence of a stressor
some stress can be good, this may be down to events coming up causing stress and worry
complex process that consists of three major elements:stressors, perceptions or aprraisals of danger
-
Attention narrowing
-
narrowed attention can be most effective in natural environment with lots of visual cues, attention narrowing may not be as effective when there is no visable goals
-
-
somatic anxiety
can start to increase a few hours before event and starts to kick in . two days prior to worry and will peak when starting comp. once comp started they will decline
-
-
look at all models rather than just one model . confidence on its own doesnt predict true performance
