The stator acts as a barrier, redirecting the fluid back to the turbine instead of the pump, enhancing system efficiency. During idle, the slow pumping of transmission oil into the turbine results in minimal torque being transferred to the engine through the transmission. However, as the crankshaft and flywheel accelerate, the fluid is pumped faster from the pump to the turbines, causing the turbine to spin at a higher speed and enabling increased torque transmission through the transmission.
Within the converter housing, turbines rotate upon contact with the fluid pumped, allowing measurement of the torque transmitted to the transmission via the input shaft.
The torque converter housing is connected to the flywheel and rotates at the same speed as the crankshaft within the turbine housing.
