AUXILARY VERBS
There is only limited range of auxilary verbs and they are:
DO
HAVE
BE
WILL/SHALL
MAY
CAN
MUST
together with WOULD, SHOULD and COULD
Auxilary verbs can be inverted with the subject to form an interrogative
:
Do you take your umbrella?
Would you take her out?
Will you come with me?
Are you happy?
There is a distinction between primary and modal axilaries
PRIMARY AUXILARIES: DO, BE and HAVE
With the primary auxilaries some variation is possible in the present tense form of the verb to mark agreement with the subject person.
I AM / YOU ARE / SHE IS WRITING :
I HAVE / SHE HAS WRITTEN
I DO / SHE DOES WRITE
MODAL AUXILARY VERBS: CAN, WILL/ SHALL, MUST, MAY
With the modal auxilaries, however, a change of subject does not prompt a chenge of verb form
I MUST / HE MUST / YOU MUST WRITE
I CAN / YOU CAN / HE CAN WRITE
EXAMPLES FOR AUXILARY VERBS;
I CAN SPEAK IN 5 LANGUAGES ( CAN YOU SPEAK IN 5 LANGUAGES, I CAN'T SPEAK IN 5 LANGUAGES)
YOU MUST FOLLOW THE RULE S OF THE CLASS ( MUST I FOLLOW THE RULES OF THE CLASS, I MUSTN'T FOLLOW THE RULES OF THE CLASS0
WILL YOU BUY BRAND NEW SHOES FOR THE HOLIDAY?
DO YOU HAVE TIME TO GO OUT WITH ME?
COULD YOU TAKE YOUR UMBRELLA FOR YOUR FRIEND?
