- - - - Saars land returned to France
  - - - Munich Conference 1938, Germany promised not to invade rest of czechoslovakia in return for the annexation of sudetenland. Czechs not consulted and feels betrayed. Soviets also feel betrayed by the west for not letting them join so aligns more closely to Germany.
        
        March 1939 - Germany invades rest of Czechoslovakia, Britain assures Poland of it's independence.
  - - - decisions had to be uniamous therefore decisions were hard to make and slow.
      - Met once a year
      - Had several commissions EG: Health, slavery, refugees ETC
      - Britain, France, Italy, Japan - security council could overrule the league
      - Germany and soviet union banned. America did not join.

        Aaland Islands - Finland and Sweden had a dispute over ownership of islands, and threatened to esclate into war. League offered a compromise which was accepted by both sides.
        
        Upper Slisia - 1921, Poland and Lithuania had a dispute over land - Poland invaded but the league made a comprise which made both side happy.
      - Failures
  - - - League put snactions on Italy but they were useless because America wasn't a member so therefore could trade with Italy
        
        This showed that the league was ineffective at resolving disputes and encouraged countries like Japan and Germany to be more aggressive
  - - - They blew up a railway and blamed it on the Chinese and subsequently invaded and occupied Manchuria
        
        League was slow to produce a report - took them a year - and supported China saying Japan had faked the incident to further it's agenda. Japan objects and leaves the league
        
        Once again showed that the league was ineffective if one side refused to negotiate
  - - - Used on Germany for Czechoslovakia - Germany annexed sudetenland in return for promising not to invade czechoslovakia. Chamberlin went home and pronounced "peace in our time". germany then went on to break it's promise a few months later.
