Drainage basins and rivers
A tributary is a smaller river that joins a larger river channel
The confluence is the point at which two rivers meet
Watersheds are ridges of high ground that denote the boundaries of drainage basins
Drainage basins are an area of land that drains into a specific river
They can drain into other drainage basins
For example... the Time flows into the Severn so- technically- the Time drainage basin flows into the Severn and then into the sea.
A catchment area of a drainage basin is the area of land drained by its tributaries
They are open systems and will often 'nest' within eachother

Residence time
The average time a water molecule spends in a store
