Ancient Civilizations
Mesopotamia
Location: The author wrote that a first there wasn't a name for the region but later, the Greeks named it Mesopotamia which means between the rivers. Also we know that "Mesopotamia was the birthplace of writing, as well as many other inventions and discoveries that changed the world." Modern Iraq is where Mesopotamia used to be located. (Steele, page 6)
Architecture: The author says that a famous architect in Mesopotamia is called a Ziggurats. Ziggurats have stairs that goes up the side of them.They are small temples or shrines on top. Also, it says that they began in the reign of Ur-Nammu. (Steele 24)
Religion: The author wrote that there were different types of Social Classes. Also, there were many different positions such as, rulers, priests, administrators, craft workers, merchants, borers. One of the bad positions were slaves. The rulers lived in very fancy palaces. While the other positions worked for the ruler in the palace. (Steele page 16)
Art: The author wrote that there was many different types of materials for art. We know that, they smelted copper together into molds. They also used tough alloy which made bronze. Also we know that they used Lapis and Carnelian to make necklaces. (Steele 28).
Writing: The author wrote that a language of writing is called Cuneiform. The author wrote that, used pictures and symbols called pictographs to write. Also, The author says on page 12 that they wedge shapes. (Steele 12)
Government: The author wrote that mighty rulers consisted of one leader for the whole country. It says that there are many myths and rumors about the legendary leaders. They are known as lords, leaders, and kings. (Steele 10)
Ancient Egypt
Location: The author wrote that, on the banks of the Nile lived the Egyptians. This land was named Kemet or the Black Land because it was covered by a rich dark silt. In the text it said that, the desert covers more than 90 percent of Egypt, which is called the Red Land. (Hart 8)
Architecture : The author says that, the architecture in ancient Egypt was called pyramids. They were Triangular shaped prisms that had many floors in. They were home to many high honored Egyptians. They were made out of granite. At the top of the pyramid there was the kings chamber. The king lived there. (Hart 20)
Religion: ON page 24 it says, "The Egyptians worshipped hundreds of gods". There were 42 different administrative districts in Egypt and they all had their own god. Most of the gods were animals that they worshiped. ( Hart 24 )
Writing: The author states that in Egypt they use a strange writing system called Hieroglyphs. It was a style of writing that was an alabrat form of picture/writing with about 700 symbols. They wrote business letters or contracts in Hieroglyphs. That isn't all they were used for though.

Art: The author says that, in Ancient Egypt their art was represented in Jewelry. They had many different styles of Jewelry. They made bracelets, necklaces, rings. They used nice and shiny gold to make their jewelry. (Hart 56)
Government: The author states that, the Egypt government had many different stages. They have one main ruler, the king. After the kind there are many more levels. The jobs are like a pyramid. They are better at the top. The top has mist honno then the bottom has the least amount of honor. (Hart 12)
Ancient China
Art: According to the text it says that, China is known for its exquisite arts and crafts. China includes many different materials in their art such as, bronze, jade, silk, lacquer, and porcelain. If you want to create art in china you have to be heavily skilled with your hands. They would sell there artworks and creations for money and they would make a living out of them. They also would even create weapons! ( (Cotterell 56)
Writing: On page 11 it said that questions and answers were inscribed on oracle bones.It also states that "an ox bone or tortoiseshell was scorched until it cracked. The oracle bones were used by the Shang kings to consult with ancestors. (Cotterell 11)
Religion: On page 12 it states that,the early years of the Zhou dynasty were golden years of social harmony. Also, the golden years brought' "kindness, respect, and strength to China." This means his ruling was setting a good example by dealing fairly with subjects. (Cottrell pg 12)
Technology: The author states that on page 40, it says the city was built on a grid system. The landscape of imperial china was it's nickname. All the buildings were dotted and were not ridged. They were very sturdy compared to other buildings. (Cotterell 40)
Government: On page 16, the text says that, ancient China was ruled by an Emperor. The EMperor's name was Qin. He was the first Emperor. He wasn't the best leader but, he helped China strengthen to where they are now. (Cotterel 16)
Commerce: In the text it says, the Silk Road was a series of trade routes that ran from Northern China across Asia. Chinese merchants traveled and traded with other countries. Many spices, teas, silk, porcelain, and lacquerware were traded along this path. Mongols ignored the opinion of Chinese official, which led China to be upset.Caravans which traveled along this path were a lot more safer than anywhere else. The path was an extremely safe path because all everyone wanted to do was trade to make money. (Cotterell 58)
Location: On page 6, it states that CHina was located in cast deserts and mountain ranges. It also states that it as located in India, West Asia, Europe. Some of China's culture was cut off do to the location. (Cotterel 6)
