Mesopotamia
Location: On page six it said that flowing southward through the middle ease were two great rivers. The location of Mesopotamia was in modern-day Turkey, Syria, and Iran. In the book it states "Mesopotamia included cooler mountainous regions in the north and reed-filled westlands in the southeast." (Steele 6)
Architecture: On page 24, it said that the ziggurats temples were made out of brick and large. In the text it said "Ziggurats looked similar to the stepped pyramids of ancient Egypt which were used as royal as but they served a different. Only wealthy/special people were allowed in this temple. This temples were massive. (Steele 24)
Religion: On page 14, it said that they worshiped and believed many gods and goddesses. They believed that the stars were a horned moon god or Cows of sin."The creseant moon was said to be their boat of the moon god."
Art: In the text it said, the Mesopotamians mastered many art forms early in history. Some of the mastered arts were pottery, jewelry, clothing, and bricks. "Sometime before 3500 BCE, they invited the potters wheel which made pottery production far more efficient." (Steele 28)
Writing: On page 12, it said they used pictures symbols at the beging to represent animals and objects. The text said "By around 3300 BCE the citizens of Uruk were using about 700 different symbols or pictographs." Cuneiform was made out of stencils. Then it dried and was there form of writing. (Steele 12)
Government: On page 10, it talked about how the kings ruled. "Summiren kings claimed to rule by the will of the gods and therefore had to perform certain religious duties." The kings were also expected to be military commanders and great builders. (Steele 10)
