Mesopotamia
location: On page 6 it said that flowing southward through the Middle East were two great rivers. The location of Mesopotamia was in modern-day Iraq as well as parts of turkey,Syria,and Iran. in the book it states that'' mesopotamia included cooler mountainous regions in the north and reed- filled wetlands in the southeast''( Steele 6)
architecture : On page 24 it said that the Mesopotamian made buildings called ziggurats. In the book it said ''the ziggurats look similar to the stepped pyramids of ancient Egypt.'' The ziggurats themselves had small temples or shrines on top by long stair. ( Steele 24)
religion: On page 14 it says the mesopotamians thought the stars were cows of sin. Another example is , the names of their gods and goddesses are Ninhursag,Nintu, and Nammu." Each city had its own deity.'' (Steele 14)
art: On page 28 it said the mesopotamians invented the potter's wheel. " Mesopotamians mastered many technologies and crafts.'' Another example is, through the 3000 BCE metal workers mixed the copper to produce the tough alloy called bronze. ( Steele 28)
writing : On page 12 it says that the writing in mesopotamia is called cuneiform. It is a clay tablet that was carved by triangle shaped sticks. the book saidearly people who lived as hunters and nomads did not need written records." ( Steele 12)
government : On page it said "Their city of Ashur began to grow wealthy from trading with Anatolia as early as 2000 B.C.E." In the text it said that mesopotamia was traded with a lot because the fertilization from the Nile flooding. Assyrian's are remembered as one of the most cruel and ruthless warriors that made them hard to take over. (Steele 40)
Ancient Egypt
location : On page 8, it said the Egyptians lived on the banks of the nile river. I know this because the text said '' The Egyptians lived on the banks of the nile river.''. The redland is the desert that covers 90 % of the land, but most people lived along the river. The author wrote that the farmers planted crops when the nile river subsided.( Hart 8)
architecture: On page 20 it says " the first pyramid was built as the burial place for King Djoser." The great pyramid at Giza was built for king khufu.The pyramids unbaked mud bricks. ( Hart 20)
religion : On page 24 it said that the egyptians worship multiple gods and goddesses. An example is Khonsu , Amu-Re, and tutankhamun. "A baboon might stand for Thoth, God of wisdom." ( Hart 24)
art: On page 56 it says " the glint of gold everywhere in Egyptian jewelry." The gold would be beaten in molds to make the shape of a bracelet. In the text in says That the egyptians had no idea about stuff like diamonds and emeralds. ( Hart 56)
writing on page 34 it said " Scribes had to be experts in writing hieroglyphs an elaborate form of picture-writing with about 700 signs." hieroglyphs was a writing with pictures. according to the book it took a while until Scribes was used for legal documents. ( Hart 40)
government : On page 12 it says " At great state occasions like royal jubilee celebrations or the giving of gifts to favored courtiers." The government in Ancient Egypt was ruled by pharaohs. Pharaoh's were believed to be gods sent to earth.( Hart 12)
Ancient china
Location: On page 6 it said" china wass first united as a single state in 221 B.C." China is the world's oldest continuous civilization. Great thinkers such as Confucius encouraged people to have a family centered way of life. ( cotterrell 6)
government On page 16 it says " He used his subjects as slave laborers to build the great wall of china."His tomb was guarded by thousands of terracotta warriors.His brief Life span of being emperor on earth was harsh.( cotterrell 16)
religion: on page 12 it says '' confucius encouraged ancestor worship because it strengthened family loyalties.'' He said a good ruler should make things evenly and fair with his subjects using his force as a last resort. In his own lifetime he had saw only growing disorder. ( Cottrell 12)
art: on page 56 It says China has been known for their arts and crafts. In the text it says In ancient China bronze was made into stunning ritual vessels." Unlike the merchants who sold the art work, Artisans had been more thought of in china. ( cotterell 56)
writing: In the text it said " the Shang king used bones to consult the ancestral spirits." people would read the cracks in order to discover answers to questions. An ox bone or tortoise shell was placed on a fire until it cracked (Cotterell 11)
architecture/technology: On page 22 it says some of the worlds best inventions came from China. In the text it said "throughout its imperial history, emperors encouraged the development of science and technology." Also on page 22 it says that some of the inventions were paper money,clockwork,silk,porcelain,fireworks kites,umbrellas,and the wheelbarrow. ( cotterell 22)
trade/commerce : on page 58 It says that The trade in China had flourished under the mongol, or Yuan. In the text it says " They controlled the entire silk road." International trade was their strong suit because of caravans could travel without danger. ( cotterell 58)
