Mesopotamia
Location: The author wrote that the location didn't have a name , but eventually it was called Mesopotamia, meaning "between the rivers." Mesopotamia was the birthplace of writing as well as additional inventions that have changed the world. In the book it states that "the region between the rivers is sometimes called the cradle of civilization." (Steele 6)
Architecture: A symbol of Mesopotamia is the ziggurats. The text says "Ziggurats looked similar to the stepped pyramids of ancient Egypt, which were used as royal tombs, but they served a different purpose." Ziggurats are a sacred precincts, which are thought to be a place of gods. (Steele 24)
Religion: Two great rivers go south word right through the middle east. It has been around since 3500 BCE, It was one of the first City, states and empires. The text says "The Region between them is sometimes called the cradle of civilization. " (Steele 6)
Art: Mesopotamians have successfully made crafts and technology. The book states ' Using low, horizontal looms, women wove cloth from wool, thenlinen, and, from the eighth century BCE, cotton." At one point in history before 3500 BCE the pottery wheel was made to produce pottery more efficiently. (Steele 28)
Writing: Early people who were nomads and hunters did not need written records. In the book it says "The Sumerians devised the world's first script or writing system." Over time the marks have changed into scripts that represents meaning and sounds. (Steele 6
Government: The rulers were honored with titles. The text says "Sumerian rulers enjoyed great power and fame and their exploits and deeda were remembered for centuries."They were expected to be builders of big cities and brave military commanders. (Steele 10)

Writing: According to the text the writing was one of the most confusing aspects of the ancient civilization. Over 400 symbols have been revealed. Location: On page 8 it said that "the Egyptians lived on the banks of the Nile River."There would be no civilization without the Nile's Fertility. The Blue Nile and White Nile covered and brought silt into Egypt.

Art: Party scenes were found on tomb walls, songs, and instruments, to show how much it meant to them. The text says "The Egyptians enjoyed life to the full." They had great festivals were thousands of people were entertained. (Hart 50)
Religion: Egyptians worshiped many different gods and goddesses, and at times it was hard to work out who was who. The text says "Many of the gods are represented by animals." There were 42 different administrative s, each who had their own god. (Hart 24)
Architecture: The first ever pyramid was made as the place for King Djoser burial. The biggest pyramid of all was built for King Khufu. The text says " The idea of this pyramid was to recreate the mound that had emerged out of the watery ground at the beginning of time, on Which the sun god stood and brought the other gods and goddesses into being."

Writing: It was purposely complicated so that not many people could accomplish it. Scribes had to be really good at writing hieroglyphs, a complicated form of picture writing with about 700 different signs. The text say
s "Hieroglyphs were used on state monuments, temples, tombs, and religious papyri."

Government: When people saw the king they would kiss the ground at the kings feet. The text says "Sometimes the Pharaoh wanted to relax." At big occasions the king gathered people together and top people would attend. (Hart 12)
