Ancient Egypt
Location- On page 8 it said that on the banks of the Nile was the "Black land" which was named after the rich dark silt. Ninety percent of Egypt is covered by the desert called the "Red Land." According to the text, "Without this fertility, there would have been no civilization in Egypt."
(Hart 8)
Art- In the text it said that ancient Egypt is known for paintings, sculptures, and jewelry. Ancient Egypt made their jewelry out of glass a lot. They used it to create different colors which were strung together sometimes with gold.
Writing- In the text it says that only scribes knew how to write. I know this because the text says "Scribes had to be experts in writing hieroglyphs, an elaborate form of picture-writing." This is explaining that they drew certain pictures for certain things and only high levels, or scribes could write.
(Hart 34)
Religion- In the text it said that the Egyptians worshipped lots of gods. This means the egyptians were polytheistic. I know this because it said "Many of the gods they worshipped were represented by animals: a baboon might stand for Thoth, the god of wisdom, at one temple, and a Moon god named Khonsu at another."
(Hart 24)
Architecture- In the text it said that they mostly built pyramids, which was built from limestone. They also built tombs for important people such as pharaohs. They would stack millions of limestone blocks until they completed a pyramid.
Government- The text said that ancient Egypt was ruled by kings and pharaohs. Pharaohs were believed to be gods on Earth, and it was this belief that was the source of their power, also called divine right. A pharaoh's family helped him rule by filling other important offices in the Egyptian g
overnment.
