Ancient Civilizations
Mesopotamia
Location: In the text it said that originally there wasn't a name for the region, but the Greeks named it Mesopotamia meaning "between the rivers." There were two rivers that flowed through the Middle East, the Tigris River and Euphrates River. In the book it states that "most of ancient Mesopotamia lay within the borders of modern Iraq." (Steele 6)
Architecture: They made ziggurats on mountains to represent the love from Earth to Heaven. The ziggurats had small temples inside with little shrines on top that were reached by stairways. The author wrote " ziggurats looked similar to the stepped pyramids of ancient Egypt." (Steele 24)
Religion: People from there time believed in many different God and Goddesses, and also believed in many different folktales. On page 14, it says " The Sumerians also believed in spirits, ghost, and demons." They believed that the star cross it was the cows of sin. (Steele 14)
Art: In the text it said that that they were molding clay into very unique pots. The text also says that metalworkers were mixing with copper to make bronze which was far better. In the text it states "jewelry was worn by both men and women to indicate status and wealth."

Writing: At around 3300 BCE people from Uruk had around 700 different writing symbols. They had difficult times making it and it was a struggle. The text states "these were pressed into soft clay with a stylus, leaving a wedge-shaped mark that then hardened." (Steele 12)
Government: The Assyrian people had very little fertile land so they made it their goal to conquer others. In the text it said "their city of Ashur began to grow wealthy from trading with Anatolia as early as 2000 BCE." The Assyrian people were very intelligent and had many talents that other regions did not have at the time. (Steele 40)
Ancient Egypt
Location: On page 8 it said "that on the banks of the Nile was the Black land," which was named after the rich dark silt. Ninety percent of Egypt is covered by a desert called the "Red Land." According to the text "without this fertility, there would have been no civilization in Egypt." (Hart 8)
Architecture: On page 20 it said that the first pyrimidine was a burial site for King Djoser. In the text it said that there was one pyrimidine that's name was the step pyramid. On page 20 it said that they constructed the doors out of granite and false passages were made to deter people.hart {20}
Religion: Religion: In the text it says that they support many different gods and goddesses. Also in the text it says that "in the evening, the god was atum an old man." in the text it said that the sun god was the overall god of dominant deity in Egyptian religion. - (Hart 24)
Art: Paintings on walls show that they enjoyed to live life to the fullest and be grateful for everything. They also had amazing public festivals, parties, and celebrations. In the text it said "they had great public festivals, at which thousands of people are entertained." (Hart 50)
Writing: In the text it says that the scribes had to be experts. On page 35 it says " Hieroglyphics were used on state monuments,temples,tombs,and religious papyri."In the text it said the scribes had to write in Greek language(- Hart 35)
Government
: In the text it said that the king was the most powerful man in egypt. On page 10 it said that one king started being king at six and then 94 years later he was still king. also in the text it said that the kings had to be trained to be king. - hart {10}
Ancient China
Art: In the text it says "China has always been renowned for its exquisite arts and crafts." Their luxury goods were always a jackpot for trades and exports. Their arts were mass produced, which caused it to lose value. (Cotterell 11)
Writing: On page 11 it says "Shang Kings used Oracle Bones to speak with ancestors." The Oracle Bones are made from ox bones or tortoiseshells. It was scorched until it cracked and the cracks answered important questions. (Cotterell 11)
Religion: On page 12 it says "he said that a good ruler should set an example by dealing fairly with his subjects." He believed in kindness, respect, and the strength of family. As a result of Confucius's teachings the Chinese came together and saw themselves as family. (Cotterell 11)
Architecture/Technology: In the text it says "Some of the world's greatest inventions came from China." For centuries China led other nations to success in inventions. Some inventions were carried for trade, such as the wheelbarrow which made it much easier to import and export goods. (Cotterell 22)
Government: On page 16 it says "In 221 B.C. the Chinese Empire was formed." The Qin soldiers defeated all of their enemies uniting as one. Emperor Qin was known for harsh and unsustainable punishments, such as burying alive. (Cotterell 16)
Commerce(Trade): The silk road was very important to trading in China. On page 58 it says "They controlled the entire length of the Silk Road, a series of trade routes that ran from Northern China across Asia." The Silk Road caused an increase in trade. (Cotterell 58)
Location: On page 6 it says "China is the world's oldest continuous civilization." From 221 B.C. to 1912 China remained a single empire. Ancient China remained untouched by outside colonies, because it was a world apart. (Cotterell 6)
Ancient India
Writing: One thing about ancient Indian writing is that it cannot be deciphered. Scientists have found over 400 pieces of ancient Indian writing and not one of them has been deciphered. The text says "One of the most confusing aspects of this ancient civilization is that the writing cannot be deciphered."

Government: The Indian government was called the Caste System, and it also still influences the Indians today. They had society called Varnas and it separates people based on wealth and occupation. The text says "people were divided based on wealth and occupation."

Religion: The believed religion of the Ancient Indians is Brahmanism. They were polytheistic but later in time they started processing the belief of Hinduism. The text says "The religion of the ancient Aryans, known as Brahmanism, was polytheistic and heavily influenced the later development of Hinduism."

Architecture/Technology: The source says "these early cities show remnants of the world's earliest sanitation system." They also had advanced hygiene for the time, with advanced and well planned cities. These cities were very nice with things like dockyards, warehouses, and protective walls.

Location: The source says "around 5,000 years ago, a civilization developed along the Indus River alluvial plain." Following this, the ancient Indians built many settlements on the bank of the Indus River. The Indus River was a very good place to build a civilization, because it was very rich in fertile soil.
