Mesopotamia
Location: In the text it said that "originally there wasn't a name for the region,but later the Greeks named it Mesopotamia meaning"between the rivers." This proves way the greeks called it Mesopotamia.Also on page on page 6 it states" Most of ancient Mesopotamia lay within Modern day Iraq." This is showing where Mesopotamia is in our today now.
Architecture: In the text it shows" Lasting symbol of ancient Mesopotamia is the ziggurat, a massive terraced platform made of brick." This is showing how they built the Ziggurats for the gods and goddesses. Also on page 24 it states" It represented a mountain, stretching from earth to the heavens." This proves that they were built high up.
Religion: In the text it said that" The Sumerians worshipped many gods and goddesses." This proves that the Sumerians were polytheistic.Also on page 14 it says" Each city had its own special deity-- Nippur had a great temple for Enlin, for example." This shows that all have a temple for each god or goddesses.
Art: In the text it says" Music was played on state occasions, or in temples for the glory of the gods." This can show us that we use music when we worship our god. Also in says on page 26" The Mesopotamians must have enjoyed swimming in the rivers in the heat of summer, or playing with hoops, rattles, spinning tops, jump ropes, and toy weapons." This also proves how we still use some things from the past.
Writing: In the text it said that" As the first cities arose, people began to require records of ownership, business deals, and government." This explains that when they get more time, they had to keep track of who's stuff is who's. Also in page 12 it states"Archeologists call this cuneiform ( wedge-shaped) writing. This is because they pressed into clay softly to make the symbols.
Government: In the text it states" The reigns of each dynasty were recorded on clay tablets known as King lists." This shows that there was more than one king or ruler for the Mesopotamian's. Also on page 10 it says" Sumerian kings claimed to rule by the will of the gods and therefore had to perform certain religious duties." This can prove how they were very religious in most things.
Ancient Egypt
Location:In the text it said "The Egyptians lived on the banks of the Nile River or beside canals extending it." This proves where Ancient Egypt was formed. Also on page 8 it says " Right up to modern times the patterns of life in Egypt for the majority of the population has depended on the exploitation of its fertile agricultural resources." This can show that the location of Egypt help back then and to modern times.
Architecture: In the text it said" Homes in ancient Egypt were built from bricks made from the Nile mud." This can show how the Nile river also helped with architecture too.Also on page 46 it says " The kitchen was some distance from the living rooms, to keep smells away." This can prove where the rooms are.
Religion: In the text said" The Egyptians worshipped hundreds of different gods and goddesses, and sometimes it is difficult to work out who was who." This can show they are polytheistic.On page 24 it also says" Many of the gods are represented by animals: a baboon might stand for Thoth,god of wisdom, at one temple, and a Moon god named Khonsu at another." This can show that they had an interesting religion.
Art: In the text it says" Party scenes on tomb walls, songs on paprika, and musical instruments show us how much music and revelry meant to them." This shows what art was to them. It can also show how they played music, and what it was like. On page 50 it said " Music was also performed on more everyday occasions." This can be how they did their everyday life and how music affected it.
Writing: In the text it said" an elaborate form of picture-writing with about 700 different signs." This can prove how long it would take to write something. Also on page 34 it says " For business form of writing, called hieratic, which was a fast- written version of hieroglyphs,always running from right to left." This can show how they use different forms of writing.
Government: In the text it says " The King was not only the most powerful and important man in Egypt-he was thought to be a god."This shows how the government was a monarchy. On page 10 it states " There was an effective system of training a prince to become a pharaoh, which included training him to become an expert sportsman and potential war leader." This can show they were ready when the pharaoh was going to die, and they need a new one.
