Ancient Civilizations
Mesopotamia
Location: In the text it said originally there wasn't a name for the region, but later the Greeks named it Mesopotamia meaning "between the rivers." There were 2 rivers that flowed through the middle east, the Tigris river and the Euphrates river. In the book it states that "Most of ancient Mesopotamia lay within the borders of present Iraq." (Steele 6)
Architecture: In the text it talks about how the ziggurats and temples were made. And it sounds like they were made well. I know this because the text says "A lasting symbol of ancient Mesopotamia is the Ziggurat, a massive terraced platform made of brick" This shows that the Mesopotamians did well in architecture because of the well intact Ziggurat. (Steele 24)
Religion: In the text it says the words gods and goddesses a lot, showing that they believed in many Gods and were probably polytheistic. I know this because the text says, "The Sumerians worshiped many gods and goddesses." This says that they believed in many gods and where polytheistic. (Steele 14)
Art: In the book it shows different kinds of jewelry, sculptures and pottery. This shows what kind of art that they did. In the text it says, "The Mesopotamians mastered many technologies and crafts at an early point in their history. This tells us that they liked art, and were good at it too. (Steele 28)
Writing: In the text it says that the nomads didn't use written records but once business started to rise, languages were needed. Also, the book says "Sumerians devised the world's first script or writing system." This shows how advanced the Mesopotamians were. (Steele 12)
Government: In the text it says how Mesopotamian rulers were brave and honored. (or expected to be). I know this because the text says "They were also expected to be brave military commanders and builders of great cities." This shows the greatness and bravery of rulers in the government. (Steele 10)

Ancient China
art: On page 56 it says that China was known for their arts and crafts. This is because they had good materials. I know this because the text says "In imperial China, luxury goods formed the major export commodities _Chinese bronze, jade, silk, lacquer, and porcelain were prised in Asia and Europe." This shows how the Chinese were able to be known for their arts. (Cotterell 56)
writing: on page 11 it says that the shang kings used oracle bones to speak with ancestors. The orical bones are named from ox bones or tortoise shells. It was scorched until it cracked and the cracks answered important questions. (Cotterell 11)
religion- on page 12 it says that Confucius was inspired by the wars and respect. I know this because the text says "It was based on kindness, respect, and the strength of the family." This shows how he was inspired to try to make the world kinder. (Cotterell 12)
architecture/technology: on page 22 it says that some of the greatest inventions came from china. I know this because the text says "Some of the world's greatest inventions came from china." this shows how China had some of the best inventions. (Cotterell 22)
government-on page 16 it says that china was an empire. I know this because the text says "The empire took its name from Qin to become China." This shows how China was an empire.
trading/commerce- on page 58 it says that Chinese merchants got great benefits and great luxuries from trading off the silk road and exporting good resources. I know this because the text says "Chinese merchants amassed large fortunes by exporting luxury goods such as silk spices, teas, porcelain, and lacquerware." This shows the benefits of trading. (Cotterell 58)
location- on page 9 it shows a map of china, in Southwest Asia. I know this because of the map on page 9. (Cotterell 9)

religion: In India they where originally Brahmanism but it later developed into Hinduism. I know this because the text said, "The religion of the ancient Aryans, known as Brahmanism, was polytheistic and heavily influenced the later development of Hinduism. Both religions have much in common and share many rituals."
