Ancient Egypt
Location: In the text it said that 90 percent of Egypt's land was covered by deserts, which was called the Red Land. The text also said when the Nile would flood, it would begin for the year for the Egyptian farmer by bringing deposits of silt. When the waters lowered the farmers went to work and "the result was usually a good summer harvest." (Hart 8)
Writing: In the text it said "Scribes had to be experts in writing hieroglyphs, an elaborate form of picture-writing with about 700 different signs." It was very complex and many people couldn't get the hang of it, therefore scribes got to just keep their role. Hieroglyphs were also used for legal documents often. (Hart 34)
Architecture: In the text it said that the first pyramid which was built for King Djoser, was built as a burial place for him. The text also said "It rose in size stages and is called the Step Pyramid." The steps were meant to represent a massive stairway, meant for the king to climb and join the Sun God in the sky. (Hart 20)
Art : In the text it said "From the Earliest Times, flax provided linen for clothes for everyone in ancient Egypt." The text also said the remarkable linen, the pharaoh would have but all of the workers wore loincloths of rough fabrics. To avoid wear on the clothes, they all had very clever ways. (Hart 54)
Religion: The text stated "The Egyptians worshipped hundreds of different gods and goddesses, sometimes it is difficult to work out who was who." Most Gods represent a different animal. Different administrative districts also had their own God. (Hart 24)
Government: The text stated "The king was not only the most powerful and important man in Egypt- he was thought to be a god." The text also said that The "King" was known as a pharaoh. The text also stated that the queen of Egypt was usually just given the name of"Great Royal Wife" but she was also looked at as a goddess. (Hart 10)
