Ancient Egypt
Writing: In ancient Egypt, only scribes knew how to write. Hieroglyphics, the writing form in ancient Egypt, contained over 700 different signs or picture symbols. The hieroglyphics did not have to go left to right like the English writing does, but instead to go top to bottom, right to left, or left to right. (Hart 34)
Location: In the text it said that 90% of Egypts land was covered by desert, which was called the Red Land. When the Nile would flood, it would begin the year for the Egyptian farmer by bringing deposits of silt. When the waters lowered the farmers went to work and "the result was usually a good summer harvest (Hart 8)
Art: During the ancient Egyptian time period, Egyptians loved all things bold, big and gold. Their art is no different and on page 56 it says "You can see the glint of gold everywhere in Egyptian jewelry." The text shows that the Egyptians also imported jewels to make their jewelry a lot more eye-catching. (Hart 56)
Government: The head leader of the ancient Egyptian government was the pharaoh. According to the text "The king was not only the most powerful and important man in Egypt-he was thought to be a god" The pharaohs ruled and controlled everything in ancient Egypt. (Hart 10)
Architecture: The main form of architecture in ancient Egypt is pyramids. In the text it says "this pyramid was to recreate the mound that had emerged out of the watery ground" Pyramids held massive tombs for the pharaohs and had a lot of symbolic value for the ancient Egyptian people. (Hart 20)
Religion: On page 24, it says that the Egyptians are polytheistic and worship many gods and goddesses. The text says "Egyptians worshiped hundreds of different gods and goddesses, and sometimes it is difficult to work out who was who" Egyptians also believed in the afterlife and mummified plus gave their dead supplies for the afterlife (Hart 24 + 18)
