THE UNCONSCIOUS

unconscious
TRIPARTITE
ego
reality principle, mostly unconscious
superego
morality principle, in the conscious
sublimation: where the superego represses the id
id
pleasure principle, in the unconscious since birth
OEDIPUS COMPLEX
son sees his father as competition for mother's affections (no complete hatred between father-son)
breastfeeding during the oral stage of the psychosexual stages brings about an intimate connection between mother-son
LITTLE HANS
had a fear of horses, but through psychoanalysis, it was revealed the boy went through the oedipus complex, where he in fact had a fear that his father would castrate him due to his attachment to his mother (what the fear actually symbolised)
PRIMAL HORDE
an evolutionary theory, which freud associated with the earliest cases of how humans first lived
the horde would have a powerful, dominant 'alpha' male who sleeps with all the women of the horde
in one instance, a son kills a father to get access to the rest of the women, but feels guilt after doing so, so uses a totem (animal) in place, which reduces his guilt
GUILT COMPLEXES

animism
science
ontogeny
object finding
