Seizure: A temporary episode of behavior alteration due to massive abnormal electrical discharges in one or more areas of the brain.

CNS infection
Neoplasm
Trauma
Metabolic and toxic
Cerebrovascular and degenerative
Symptoms
Loss of consciousness
Convulsions
Contraction of muscles
Hyperextension of spine
Heavy labored breathing
Self-limiting w/ a duration of 1-2 min
Signs of recovery
Patient awaken uninjured
DO NOT let patient drive
Signs of deterioration
Injury during convulsive state
Loss of unconsciousness persists
PABCD Treatment
P: Leave patient in dental chair (supine is ideal), loosen tight clothing, relocate all dental instruments, and turn patient to left side
A&B: After seizure is over, maintain open airway; admin O2 by mask or prongs
A&B: suction to keep airway clear
C: monitor pulse
D: Contact EMS
