Speed and Velocity - Coggle Diagram
Speed and Velocity
What is speed?
Units of Speed
Speed is calculated by dividing distance and time
Units of speed are measured by the distance divided by time
Like meters per second
Constant Speed - The rate of change of position in which the sam distance is traveled each second.
The car is moving at a constant speed of 11m/s(meters per second)
Average Speed - The total distance traveled divided by the total time taken to travel that distance.
Changing Speed
Instantaneous speed - Speed at a specific instant in time
You can see a car's instantaneous speed on its speedometer.
Distance-Time Graphs
Comparing Speeds on a Distance-Time Graph
You can use distance-time graphs to compare the motion of two different objects
You can use distance-time graphs to calculate the average speed of an object.
Distance-Time Graph and Changing Speed
Slowing down
The slope decreases
Stopping
There is a straight horizontal line
Speeding Up
The slope increases
Average Speed
The starting and end point displacement of the graph will indicate it's average speed
Velocity - The speed and the velocity of a moving object
Both displacement and velocity are represented by and arrow. However, the length of the arrow represents and object velocity. The longer the arrow, the faster the object is moving.
