Types of listening
Responsive
Assessment tasks for responsive listening can include answering questions and providing appropriate responses. (Brown, 2004)
Selective
Assessment tasks for selective listening can include listening cloze, information transfer, and aural scanning strategies. (Brown, 2004)
Intensive
Assessment tasks for intensive listening can include recognizing phonological and morphological elements, paraphrasing, and sentence repetition. (Brown, 2004)
Extensive
Assessment tasks for extensive listening can include dictations, communicative stimulus-response tasks, retelling, and editing. (Brown, 2004)
Macro skills - differentiating larger skills (inferencing, summarizing and etc.)

Observation/Performance

We don't directly observe a learner's competence (their underlying knowledge of the language), but rather their performance (their observable actions).
The interpretation of performance can be subjective, depending on the observer's experience and perspective. This is why it's important to use clear criteria, multiple raters, and a variety of assessment methods to minimizebias.
Many factors can influence performance, including fatigue, stress, test anxiety, and even temporary memory blocks.
\We need to assess their performance across multiple tasks, in different contexts, and over time.
