2.2 Word Location
Phrase Position: The emphasized point in the sentence tends to come second, so word correctly.

Use Active Voice: Represents the subject being acted on rather than actively doing something.
ex: The cat was bitten by the dog.
The dog bit the cat.
Use Past Tense for Observations and Specific Interpretation: Observations are referred to in the past tense.
ex: The IV caused local irritation in 53% of patients.
Avoid Strings of Nouns: ex: porcine tracheal fluid samples. Fluid samples from the tracheae of pigs.
2.1 Individual Words
Word Precision: Use precise words to not leave up to interpretation.
ex: The acid sat for a long time.
The acid sat for 10 days.
Simple and Necessary Words/Phrases: Make understanding for your reader easy, and don't overcomplicate the wording.
ex: We basically utilized DNA crystallography. We used DNA crystallography.
Avoid Overuse of Acronyms:
Spell out acronyms or abbreviations.
ex: ATP is necessary for driving cell reaction. Adenosine triphosphate is necessary for driving cell reaction.
Nomenclature: Ensure that nomenclature for species and Latin derivatives are italicized and that names are appropriately capitalized.

The author's job when writing a paragraph is to minimize confusion and allow for a smooth flow of information.
