Definitions
Physical Abuse
Any child who recieves physical injury or injuries as a reslt of acts or omissions on the part of his parents or gaurdians
Neglect
The persistent or severe neglect of a child, or failure to protect a child from exposure to any kind of danger, including cold or starvation, or extreme failure to carry out important of care, resulting in significant impairement of the child's health or development, including non-organic failure to thrive
Sexual Abuse
The involvement of dependent, developmentally immature children and adolescents in sexual activities which they do not fully comprehend and to which they are unable to give informed consent or that violate the social tabos of family role
Emotional Abuse
Actual or likely severe adverse effects on the emotional or behavioural development of the child caused by persistent or severe emotional ill treatment or rejection
Children First
General term used to encompass the guidance and legislation for the protection and welfare of children
Guidelines
Related to the recognistion of child abuse and neglect, the reporting of same to Tusla - Child and FAmily agency, and the best practices which orgnaisations should adhere to in oder to keep children sade while availing of their services
