Reaction of Acids & Bases
Acids
All react with water to contain H+
Strong
High concentration of H+ Ions
e.g: Sulphurie, Nitrie, Hydrochloric
Weak
Low concentration of H+ Ions
e.g: Citric, Phosphoric, Sulphurous
Bases
Insoluble
Metal Oxides
Metal Carbonates
Metal Hydroxides
Soluble
Alkali OH- Ions
Strong: NaOH, KOH
Weak: NH4, OH, Na2, CO3
Salts
The hydrogen in an acid is replaced by a metal.
Uses:
Epsom Salts (MgSO4
Fertiliser (NH4NO3)
Table Salt (NaCl)
Solubility
Soluble: All nitrates all NH4, All group one salts.
Insoluble: Made by precipitation (AgCl, BaSO4).
