Skills
Problem: prolonged screen time, bad posture developed due to long hours of studying and working on the laptop (relation to SDG #4, quality education)
Sustainable Development Goals
Circular economy: a circular economy refers to a design cycle in which minimizing waste is prioritized // this would contribute to any design solutions in regards to environmental impact // additionally, a circular economy minimizes waste of material, which also means minimizng a waste of money and manpower in production.
UCD: likely unfeasible as the product is mass produced and not tailored to a specific client
- good health and wellbeing - the aim of the product is to improve the posture through the use of ergonomic products
Parents working in offices for a long duration of time
AutoCad - using AutoCAD to create the outline for the products, making sure that they fit together before using the laser cutter.
- quality education - improving the physical wellbeing of students to facilitate their academic wellbeing
Designing - designing the products to be visually appealing to the audience, prompting more customers to be willing to buy products. potential usage of custom designs for customers.
Marketing - using posters or other means of social media to attract the attention of customers (both prior to the College Fair and during it)
Success Criteria
Time constraints - 6 lessons for criterion B and 11 lessons for criterion C. We need to be able to do research, design and mass produce the product, and execute quality control within that timeframe
Ergonomically designed for students
Sustainable usage of materials (relates to SDG #12, responsible production + consumption)
Successful usage of aesthetics to attract customer's attention.
Construction ability: It's very hard to create something that has to hold something as valuable as a phone or computer. We have to show that it's actually strong enough to carry a laptop, which means that we have to use something of the same weight to measure the risk and challenges.
- responsible production + consumption - utilizing materials responsibly and minimizing waste products through the use of a circular economy
Finance - understanding how to manage the budgets, analyzing the finance situation, and planning on how we spend the money.
Batch production - the product will be mass produced after a prototype is designed on AutoCAD.
High quality products made to support heavy items (laptop, phone) safely.
Function: the product should suit the student ergonomically, alleviating any problems related to bad posture.
Aesthetics:
Materials: the product should be made out of high quality and sustainable materials.
Manufacture: the product's manufacturing process should follow the principles of a circular economy and minimize the waste produced.
Safety: the product should be safe for students of all ages, with no sharp edges or splinters in the wood, to ensure that harm will not be caused to users.
