NZ and the Vietnam War
1964
In June of 1964, the New Zealand Army Detachment (NEWZAD) arrived in Thu Dau Mot, Bing Duong province. They were an engineer group that helped with reconstruction and developmental projects.
1965
In July 1965, the 161 Battery RNZA arrived in Vietnam, and served with the US 173rd Airborne brigade at Bien Hoa.

1966
The 161 Battery RNZA served with the 1st Australian Task Force in June of 1966 in Nui Dat until May of 1971.
Battle of Long Tan - The 161 Battery RNZA was involved in the Battle of Long Tan at 12am on the 18th of August 1966. They provided artillery support to 6th Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment (6RAR) surrounded by enemy forces in the Long Tan rubber plantations, near Nui Dat.

1963
NZ started to send people to help with the war effort, sending in a surgical team in April 1963 to Qui Nhon in the Bihn Dinh province. They helped treat civilian wounds, and trained local nurses.
1967
V (Victor) Company, 1st Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment (1RNZIR) arrived in Vietnam in May 1967. They withdrew in November 1967.
V2 (Victor 2) Company, 1st Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry (1RNZIR) arrived in Vietnam in November of 1967.
The 1st New Zealand Services Medical Team (1NZSMT) arrived in Bong Son in Binh Dinh province in April of 1967. They provided training, and treated civilian patients.
W (Whiskey) Company, 1st Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment (1RNZIR) arrives in Vietnam in December of 1967.
1968
V2 Company are withdrawn from Vietnam in May 1968, to then be replaced in May 1968 by V3 (Victor 3) Company, (1RNZIR).
W Company are withdrawn from Vietnam in November of 1968, to then be replaced with W2 (Whiskey) Company, (1RNZIR) arrives in Vietnam in November 1968.
4 Troop, New Zealand Special Air Service (NZSAS) arrives in Vietnam in December of 1968, where they serve with the Australian SAS Squadron at Nui Dat.

1969
V3 is withdrawn from Vietnam in May 1969, then replaced in May of 1969 by V4 (Victor 4) Company, (1RNZIR).
W2 is withdrawn in November of 1969, to be replaced by W3 (Whiskey 3) Company, (1RNZIR) in the same month.
1970
V4 is withdrawn in May 1970, to be replaced in the same month, by V5 (Victor 5), Company, (1RNZIR).
