Article 40.3.3 into the Constitution, explicitly acknowledging the right to life of the unborn, with equal regard to the life of the mother
- Twelfth Amendement of the Constitution 1992
Sought to exclude the risk of suicide as a ground for abortion in Ireland. It was rejected by the public

Ensured that the prohibition of abortion would not limit the freedom to travel to another state to obtain an abortion
- Fourteenth Amendment of the Cosntitution 1992
Ensured that the prohibition of abortion would not limit the freedom to obtain or make available information relating to services legally available in another state
- Regulation of Information Act 1995
Regulated the provision of information regarding abortion services available outside the State, ensuring compliance with the Fourteenth Amendment
- Protection of Life During Pregnancy Act 2013
Provided for lawful termination of pregnancy in cases where there was a real and substantial risk to the life of the mother, including the risk of suicide. This act followed the tragic death of Savita Halappanavar and was the first legislation allowing for legal abortion in Ireland
- Thrity Sixth Amendmend of the Consitution 2018
Repealed the Eighth Amendment and allowed the Oireachtas (Irish Parliament) to legislate for abortion
- Health (Regulation of Termination of Pregnancy) Act 2018
Provided for abortion on request up to 12 weeks of pregnancy, and in certain cases after 12 weeks, such as when there is a risk to the life or serious harm to the health of the mother, or in cases of fatal fetal abnormality
