Origins
In 1995 the Fo Guang Shan Nan Tien Temple was opened after two years of construction, winning awards for its architecture and lighting.
Evolution
It became known as a popular tourist spot in Australia and won first prize in the Schools/Institutions section at the Wollongong Garden Festival in 2000.
Present Day
The temple has won multiple awards of tourism and has opened it's own graduate school, the Nan Tien Institute in March 2015.

Name
The name translates to Buddha's Light Mountain Paradise of the South Temple. Fo Guang Shan. It is called this as it is the largest Buddhist temple in the southern hemisphere.
It is a branch temple of Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Order.
