Stonewall: June 1969, police raises the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in NYC's Greenwich. Patrons fought back, leading to 3 nights of rioting. Riots sparked the birth of grassroots gay liberalisation movement. By 1973, there were nearly 800 gay and lesbian organisations in the US, and by 1990, the number grew to several thousand. 1970, 5,000 gay men and lesbians marched in NYC to commemorate the first anniversary of the Stonewall riots. October 1987, over 600,000 people marched in Washington, demanding equality of LGBTQ+ community. 1975, Civil Service Commission lifted the ban on employing homosexuals in most federal jobs.
