Trophy Wife
-
"Well, I tell ya what - Curley says he’s keepin’ that hand soft for his wife."-section 2
"Well, that glove’s fulla vaseline."-section 2
Curly is always trying to brag about his wife to the ranch/itinerant works one of the ways he does is that he says he keeps a glove full of Vaseline to keep his hand soft for his wife.
He also is trying to brag and say that the ranch/itinerant workers have to go to a whore house when they want to have sex, but when he wants to have love he can go to his wife
because having a wife is a near impossible dream for the ranch/itinerant workers as they are constantly on the move and don't have a steady income

"a young man came into the bunk house; a thin young man with a brown face, with brown eyes and a head of tightly curled hair. He wore a work glove on his left hand, and, like the boss, he wore high-heeled boots"-section 2
By wearing " high-heeled boots" he is trying to make it look like he is different to all these ranch workers. He wants to make sure that he is different from everyone else but the same as the boss
