Man’s impact on the environment - Coggle Diagram
Man’s impact on the environment
Deforestation 🌳
What is deforestation?
Cutting down trees / burning down trees 🔥
Impacts
Loss of habitats
Lesser trees to take in carbon dioxide in which leads to increase in carbon dioxide
Trees hold onto soil. Without them, leads to soil erosion
Exposed soil ——> water vapour to evaporate faster ——> Drier soil
Global Warming 🌞
What is Global Warming?
Increase temperature in the Earth 🌍
Why does it happen?
Increase in the amount of greenhouse gases (e.g CO2, methane) which traps heat.(greenhouse effect is caused by burning fossil fuels, deforestation and etc.)
Impacts
Ice caps 🧊❄️
-> floods
-> rising sea levels
Affects weather 🌦️ and warmer temperatures
Pollution 🌊
What is pollution?
Realease of harmful substances into air, water 💧 and land.
Land pollution
Caused when waste is not disposed of properly.
Water pollution
Chemical waste/litter discharged into water bodies 💧
Air pollution
Harmful gases are released due to burning of fossil fuels/ deforestation.
How does mans interact with his environment?
Natural resources are resources that occur naturally on Earth. Examples are sunlight, air, forests, fossil fuels, land, water, metals and
minerals.
Man's interactions with his environment have both
positive and negative impacts.
Natural resources are important for Man to obtain energy, food and materials.
What are the negative impact on the environment
Fossil fuels, such as coal, oil and gas, are used as an energy source for vehicles and factories.
Metals and minerals are obtained from the ground to make things such as machines, utensils and jewellery.
What can man do to make positive impact on his environment
Reforestation
Reuse
Reduce
Recycle
