Tao: "The Way." The universe is infinite and consistent, made up of complementary and contrastive forces, all ending in balance (Novak 145-148).
Yin & Yang: Principle of two opposing forces that are harmonious and co-dependent (BBC; Novak 161).
Yin: Dark, feminine, passive, negative, etc.
Yang: Light, masculine, active, positive, etc.
5 Elements: 5 principle elements/materials that both create and destroy one another cyclically.
Earth: produces metal, defeats fire
Fire: produces earth, burns wood
Metal: collects water, erodes earth
Wood: produces fire, soaks up water
Water: nourishes wood, rusts metal

Lao Tzu: Legendary Chinese Philosopher and author of the Tao Te Ching (Novak 145).
Tao Te Ching: Book that entails the nature of the Tao and life that results from living in harmony with it (Novak 146).
Wu Wei: "Effortless Action;" Living in harmony with the Tao and not interfering with the natural order of the world (BBC).
"True mastery can be gained by letting things go their own way" (Tao Te Ching).
Chi'i/Qi: Foundational material of all things. Like blood, it flows through the body and fosters life. Qi is given at birth and must be maintained at a balanced level (both amount and flow) for a long and healthy life (BBC).
