Tao Te Ching "the way and it's power": Taoism's basic texts
Lao Tzu "the old boy" - the originator of Taoism, nothing is known of him but a mosaic of legends and assumptions, he did not organize or promote his ideas but wrote them down and then rode off on a water buffalo

Wu wei (inaction) - a teaching within Tao Te Ching that describes pure effectiveness where action in which friction in interpersonal relationships, in intrapsychic conflict, and in relation to nature is reduced to the minimum.
The Tao "the way" - ultimate creative principle of the universe and is too vast for human rational to fathom
The One - the essence of Tao
Yin/Yang - the principle of natural and complementary forces, patterns and things that depend on one another and do not make sense on their own for example good/bad, light/dark, feminine/masculine, etc.
Yin - feminine, negative, dark, passive, winter, evil
Yang - masculine, positive, light, active, summer, good
Tzu Jan "naturalness or spontaneity" - to fulfil that which is naturally so, and the way to do this is Wu Wei
Five elements - dynamic and interdependent aspects of the universe's development and existence
earth - nourishing, fertile, and productive
metal - hard, cutting, and discerning
fire - hot, dry, moving, and ascending
water - cool, descending, yielding, and moist
wood - growing, expanding, and flexible
Ch'i - the cosmic vital energy that enables beings to survive and links them to the universe as a whole.
Practices
Alchemy - the goal is to transform human beings so they can have a longer life and bring them closer to the Tao
External Alchemy (wai-dan) - diet and the use of minerals and herbs to promote long life
Internal Alchemy (nei-dun) - gives longer life, purity and closeness to the Tao, but the practitioner works on themselves without the use of chemicals to transform the elements within their body into purer forms that will promote the energy of life
Talisman -objects thought to bring good luck and protection from evil spirits
