Parable of the Sower Mind Map
Background
Lauren is born into a world quite like our own, with raging prices and violence.
This produced trust issues with people.
She saw a lot of awful things.
Had to identify as a boy in order to live.
Lauren is black, which also, unfortunatly, creates issues for her.
Lauren is born with hyperempathy, allowing her to feel the pain and pleasure of others.
This is because her mom did drugs when she was pregnant with Lauren.
"A first wife who was a drug addict and a daughter who is drug damaged is not something he wants to oast about" ( 12).
She needed to be careful and hide herself, otherwise she would be an easy target.
This means that she needed to deal with the pain, especially when shooting others.
"I feel what I see others feeling or what I beleive they feel" ( 12).
She had a close relationship with her father.
She didn't like her brother Kieth all that much.
He would tease her about her hyperempathy and cause her physical pain for not reason.
"My brother Kieth used to pretend to e hurt just to trick me into sharing his supposed pain. Once he used red ink as fake blood to make me bleed" ( 11).
She loves writing.
Beliefs
Lauren's family believed in God.
Lauren finds out she has her own beliefs.
She called the religion Earthseed.
Lauren named her belief system Earthseed because she plans on preparing others to become seeds that will carry human kind to wherever life takes them (a more accessible future).
Her belief is that God is Change and huanity is destined to take root among the stars.
She starts to tell others about Earthseed.
Because of this she get's other people to join her beleif system.
Lauren's dad was a baptist preacher
Character Development
After Lauren's family is killed she needs to learn to fend for herself completely.
This leads her to kill more for the sake of survival.
“Besides, just because it’s a bird or a squirrel doesn’t mean I could shoot a person—a thief like the ones who robbed Ms. Sims. I don’t know whether I could do that. And if I did, I don’t know what would happen to me. Would I die?” (38).
Because Lauren needs to kill more she becomes more open to the idea of it.
This makes Lauren less afraid to experiene the pain she knows will come when hurting or killing someone.
This helps them survive.
She teaches others to fend for themselves as well.
Lauren starts to ovrcome her trust issues.
When this starts to happen she begins telling people that she's not a boy, as well as about her hyperempathy
Despite the tradegty, it gives Lauren more freedom and therefore makes her more happy.
Plot Development
There's a fire that kills off Lauren's family.
This leads her to find Zahara and Harry (I think that's his name)
They start to travel together.
They recruite more people
This allows them to be less likley to get attacked because a bigger group is less easy to kill.
Therefore they experience less attacks
